Formal/technical. Often used in engineering and physics to describe physical changes in shape, especially under stress. It is very similar to 'distortion' for physical objects, but 'distortion' can also apply to non-physical things. 'The deformation of the bridge was visible.' works. 'The deformation of facts' doesn't.

Formal. Emphasizes presenting something inaccurately or falsely, often with intent to deceive. It is largely interchangeable with 'distortion' when referring to facts or information. 'The company was accused of misrepresentation of its financial data.' works.
