تفاوت با واژههای مشابه
متداول. گروهی از کلمات که معنایشان از معنای تکتک کلمات قابل استنتاج نیست و توسط کاربرد تثبیت شدهاند. در حالی که برخی اصطلاحات همنشینیهای ثابت هستند، همه همنشینیها اصطلاح نیستند. 'باران گربه و سگ میبارد' یک اصطلاح است، 'قهوه قوی' یک همنشینی است.
Common. A group of words established by usage as having a meaning not deducible from those of the individual words. While some idioms are fixed collocations, not all collocations are idioms. 'It's raining cats and dogs' is an idiom, 'strong coffee' is a collocation.

Common. A small group of words standing together as a conceptual unit, typically forming a component of a clause. Collocations are a type of phrase, but 'phrase' is a much broader term. 'A beautiful day' is a phrase, and 'beautiful day' is a common collocation.
