شکل گذشته و اسم مفعول فعل 'rust': زنگ زدن، یعنی تحت تأثیر زنگزدگی قرار گرفتن که پوششی قهوهای مایل به قرمز و پوستهپوسته است و بر اثر اکسیداسیون روی آهن یا فولاد تشکیل میشود.

Formal/technical. Refers to damage by chemical action, not just oxidation of iron. Interchangeable with 'rusted' for metals but applies more broadly to other materials. 'The old pipes corroded' works, 'My car door is corroded' works as well, but 'rusted' is more specific to iron/steel.
