محاصره کردن جایی با نیروهای نظامی برای تسخیر یا مجبور کردن به تسلیم.

تفاوت با واژههای مشابه
روزمره. وقتی معنای محاصره باشد قابل تعویض است ولی surround کلیتر است و غیرنظامی هم استفاده میشود.
Everyday. Interchangeable when meaning to enclose an area, but 'surround' is more general and can be used for non-military contexts — 'The house was surrounded by trees' vs. 'The army besieged the city'.
رسمی/نظامی. معمولا به معنای جلوگیری از ورود است نه تسخیر مستقیم.
Formal/military. Similar but usually implies blocking supplies or access rather than occupying the area physically — 'The navy blockaded the port' vs. 'The army besieged the fortress'.

روزمره/رسمی. وقتی به معنی مزاحمت باشد قابل جایگزین است ولی در صحبت معمولی بیشتر harass میگویند.
Everyday/formal. Can replace 'besiege' when meaning to disturb persistently—'She was harassed by reporters' fits better than besiege in casual talk.
غیررسمی. معنای سبکتر و معمولتر برای اذیت مداوم است.
Informal. A lighter, more common synonym for bothering someone repeatedly — 'Children pester their parents' is more casual than 'besiege'.
