تفاوت با واژههای مشابه
رسمی. وقتی به ناتوانی جسمی در صحبت کردن اشاره دارد، جایگزین dumb میشود. مثلاً «او لال است» درست است، ولی «او احمق است» ممکن است توهینآمیز باشد.
Formal. Can replace 'dumb' when referring to inability to speak due to physical reasons, not intelligence. Example: 'She is mute' works, 'He is dumb' may be offensive unless meaning silent.
متداول. وقتی کسی انتخاب میکند صحبت نکند، جایگزین dumb میشود. مثلاً «او ساکت بود» درست است، ولی وقتی ناتوانی مد نظر است، خیر.
Common. Can substitute 'dumb' when meaning not speaking by choice. E.g., 'He was silent' fits, but not when implying inability.

متداول/غیررسمی. تقریباً هممعنی با dumb برای معنی احمقانه، ولی stupid رایجتر است.
Common/informal. Nearly interchangeable with 'dumb' for foolishness, but 'stupid' is more commonly used. Example: 'That was stupid' and 'That was dumb' both correct.
رسمی/ادبی. کمتر توهینآمیز است و بیشتر برای تصمیمات ناپخته به کار میرود، مناسب موقعیتهای مودبانه.
Formal/literary. Less harsh than 'dumb', used for unwise decisions more than general lack of intelligence. Good for polite contexts.
